The Research Ethics monitoring and approval process at SMU is overseen by the SMU Research Ethics Committee (SMUREC). SMUREC is a continuation of the former (Medunsa Research Ethics Committee - MREC) which was registered with the US Department of Health and Human Services as an International Organisation (IORG0004319), as an Independent Review Board (IRB00005122), and functions under a Federal Wide Assurance (FWA00009419). SMUREC is also registered and audited in accordance with the National Health Act (No 61 of 2003) with registration number REC-210408-003.
